Proof of Pat

This is the place where I prove to you I’m not just an AI bot, but a real human.

You’ll soon find I do many different things, each of which I love as much as the next.

The professional stuff

After high school, I started an economics degree at the University of Sydney and simultaneously picked up a fraud & AML analyst role for Australian banks. While I absolutely hated this job, I soon realised the amount of money traditional institutions were losing to crypto scams. I developed crypto training for my team, drastically cutting losses. I eventually trained the rest of the department and helped curate new transaction heuristics to detect crypto fraud.

Following this, I joined Crypto Tax Calculator to tackle the problem of crypto taxes.

I have now been at CTC for over 2 years working as a product marketer, positioning our product to be the choice for any crypto investor with on-chain activity. While working at CTC, I also began writing, starting up a private crypto newsletter that gained traction very quickly. My first article was published in Canstar in early 2022, and from there, I helped launch Pedestrian Group’s Web3 publication ‘The Chainsaw’. I was then asked to be the dedicated crypto and Web3 writer for Forbes Advisor AU.

I now work with multiple different Web3 startups, helping them clearly differentiate their product from a sea of competitors.

My interests

Travel

One of the things I love about crypto is the push for remote, async work. I love travelling, and can now travel year-round while working in some of the coolest places in the world. I have worked from every continent except Antarctica, and have a real passion for travelling off the beaten track and enjoying the the full set of experiences each new place has to offer.

Freediving

I started spearfishing when I moved to Australia in 2013, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I spearfished competitively for years and decided to work on my breath-hold. After several years of training, I became a certified Molchaonvs freediver instructor and have taught students around the world how to dive 30m deep on a single breath.

Surfing

When the ocean conditions are rough, I can’t go spearfishing or freediving, so I had to find another sport that worked with big waves. Living in Australia, being able to surf is a right of passage. While I might not be the best, I’m good enough to go out in most conditions and have some fun. It’s also a great sport for travelling, and one of my best sessions was in Morocco.

Camping

While I love travelling outside of Australia, I’m also lucky enough to call one of the most beautiful countries in the world my home. During my short stints at home, I always find some time to pack the Landcruiser and hitch up the boat for a long-haul surf, dive and camping mission to a remote part of the country.
